Is there a way to repair a stripped pedal riding a bicycle crank? Or do I have to replace the crank?
It is the right side crank. I have tried to eliminate But I do not know how. I removed the cover and the nut, but not moving. If only you can repair the pedal assembly that could somehow be easier. If I go with the crank arm replacement, are all a standard size or do I need to measure and get exactly the same size I have now? (and no, I do not want to spend $ 200 more for new cranks, the bike itself is a Ironhorse Outside the law that only costs 200 new!)
If the pedal assembly is stripped, then you will need to replace. Even if the pedal still threads in the crankshaft, any loosness quickly because of the pedal / crank connection to fail. You can buy cheap cranks only a shop stores often have old parts, and if you're not too demanding, which can provide one for you, without too many problems. They may have to order one, but even then, not be too expensive if you do not need the "best and most new "model. The store can check size of the crank arm and type for you (there are different lengths and types of mounts for handles) so it is best to simply put it in a store. If the store is unavailable, check inside the rod there a print size: common sizes are 170, 172.5 and 175. Probably is one of these numbers. Then check to see what kind of crank assembly is: if it is a "spindle cone" type, the bottom bracket that mounts the crank in the square. If it is a notch type, then you have a little more contemporary fluted pedal. Good luck!
